Periphery in Toronto!
Last week I got to go see one of my favourite bands called Periphery! They’re a progressive metal band from the US and are currently on tour to promote their newest albums Juggernaut: Alpha and Omega. If you like heavy music with melodies and poly-rhythmic beats, then definitely check them out! Plus, they are all insanely talented musicians (not to mention cute too… I have a huge crush on one of the guitarists!).
One of my favourite things to do in the city is going to see live music. Toronto has a very diverse music community – from hardcore to hip hop, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! It’s really fun to see musicians play at smaller intimate venues too, such as places like Hard Luck Bar, Studio Bar, and the Rex where you can get up close and personal with the performers. You also discover great artists there too that end up being your new favourite band. Of course seeing musicians live in bigger venues brings a whole other experience!
What I love most about seeing musicians live is being able to feel their energy and emotion in their songs. Yes you can feel it from a recording or video performance but feeling it firsthand is something indescribable. I also absolutely love the connection you have with the audience as well. Every time I’m at a show, I’m always amazed at the support the musicians get and how excited everyone is. It’s fun to be with others that also enjoy the same music and are just as excited as you to be there – feeding off each other’s energy!
