A Little Zeitaku
Sushi seems to have gained massive popularity over the past few years in the Western world. People love it for the taste, the convenience, and the fact that it can serve as a light dinner. Some even eat it for the health benefits (although I don’t think all that spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce is considered healthy…). Especially with all these sushi joints opening up all over the city, finding a good restaurant isn’t as hard as it used to be but finding an excellent one can still be a challenge! Once you do find that special restaurant though, you can always count on them to consistently provide quality sushi and service. It’s also nice to be a little zeitaku – spoiling yourself from time to time! So to celebrate my mother’s birthday, my family decided to be zeitaku and go to Aoyama Sushi.
Let me just say that Aoyama Sushi is one of the BEST sushi restaurants in Toronto. My family has been going there for years whenever we craved fresh quality sushi. They are a little on the pricey side but everything on their menu is of high quality, it’s definitely one of the best in the city!
We started our night by ordering a plate of Kakifurai (4 deep fried oysters). They were not tough at all and the dipping sauce complimented them perfectly – not too heavy, almost as if the sauce had some vinegar in it. The main dishes of the night were the Omakase Sushi Sets which include a side of edamame, chicken skewer, munk fish liver, and seafood soup. I wasn’t a huge fan of the monk fish liver but everything was good.
Obviously my attention was more towards the amazingly fresh sushi assortment. It’s been over a year since I last had sushi this good so I couldn’t stop smiling while eating (neither could my sister!). The Ootoro, Hotate, and the Botanebi were my favourite.
There is a limit of 5 servings of the Omakase Sushi Set in one night but they also have many other delicious sets on their menu that you should check out, such as their Omakase courses. Seating is also limited so make sure you make a reservation ahead of time.
When you find yourself wanting fresh quality sushi, Aoyama Sushi never fails to disappoint!
